It works by reducing the production of uric acid in the body, helping to lower the levels of uric acid in the blood and prevent gout attacks. This medication is often used when other gout medications, like allopurinol, are not well-tolerated or are ineffective. It  may also be prescribed to manage hyperuricemia, a condition characterized by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. Elevated uric acid levels can increase the risk of developing gout and kidney stones. Febuxostat helps lower uric acid levels in individuals with hyperuricemia, reducing the likelihood of gout attacks and related complications. In some cases, it may be used to prevent the formation of uric acid kidney stones. High levels of uric acid can lead to the formation of kidney stones. By lowering uric acid production, Febuxostat can reduce the risk of uric acid stone formation in the kidneys.
